Surface quality refers to the state of the surface layer of a part after machining, and it is also a very important aspect to measure the machining quality. It includes the surface roughness, the metallographic structure of the surface layer metal, the mechanical properties and the magnitude and properties of residual stress.
Surface quality refers to the state of the surface layer of a part after machining, and it is also a very important aspect to measure the machining quality. It includes the surface roughness, the metallographic structure of the surface layer metal, the mechanical properties and the magnitude and properties of residual stress.
The influence of surface quality on the service performance of parts can be summarized into the following three aspects:
1) Effect of surface roughness
The surface roughness affects the fit property, wear resistance, fatigue strength and corrosion resistance.
2) Effect of surface residual stress
If the surface layer of the part produces compressive stress during processing or heat treatment, the fatigue strength of the part can be appropriately improved.
3) Effect of cold work hardening layer
Cold work hardening can improve the wear resistance of parts, but excessive hardening will cause small cracks and peeling on the surface, which will aggravate the wear of parts.
